What is it with Conde Nast and its apps on iPad? First it was The New Yorker that was constantly giving me a headache when trying to download new issues — something that has, mostly, been rectified since the latest app update — and now it’s Wired. I’ve been trying to download the new issue (December 2011) on iPad since last night, and every time I try it times out and gives me the following error message:

Error During Download
Cannot start the download because the file is missing or invalid.

Am I just the unluckiest person on the planet when it comes to magazine apps, or are others encountering similar issues? And if this is a general problem, then it supports my view that digital magazines just aren’t ready for a mainstream audience yet — an audience that won’t have the patience to deal with constant tech glitches.
