You may remember that I covered a web-based publishing tool for the creation of iPad/iPhone magazines earlier this year called App Press, and I also mentioned that the system was updated in a recent Magaziner Intelligence post. Some of the new features include Twitter and web integration — that last one meaning adding access to a website from within the magazine.

An interesting option that App Press also offers is that you can buy an app for your iOS device, which will let you test any of the creations you build through the CMS on your computer. Sure, iOS developers are able to do this, but the point here is that App Press tries to make this an easy process for non-developers — you’re not going to be creating any ground-breaking magazines here, but the tools are there to build something simple that can look nice.

You’ll find the different pricing options here, and the makers have made it possible to get a 60-day free trial if you enter “magaziner” in the company field when registering. Also, I’ve been given 5 codes to give away for the App Press app, which costs $15 — just email me if you’re interested, first come first serve.

You’ll also want to keep an eye on the App Press blog, as they’re posting tips on how to take full advantage of the tools. Below, a quick video demo that shows you how the system works.

And with this post, I’ve also decided to create a new category to the site, called “Tools” — expect it to includes posts that relate to the production of digital magazines.
