Let me start by saying that I think the upcoming Atavist app looks like a very interesting one, and I’m liking what it wants to do (raise awareness and give a venue for long-form journalism and writing) — you can read more about it in this piece on the Fast Company site). I just find it strange that every mockup image they’ve put up to preview the app uses some sort of strangely proportioned and slim beveled iPad — yes, it will come out on various tablets (Android, Kindle), but the home button clearly paints it as a weird looking iPad.

Was there a special reason for doing this? Would it be treading on Apple’s trademarks to use a proper iPad “frame” to show off the app? It’s not that big a deal, but it did make me wonder what the reasoning behind it was.

Update: I may have gotten my answer, from Twitter user @nathanadams: “I believe that’s the ‘iPad’ from the iPhone/iPad Simulator that comes with the SDK, that Atavist is using.”
